We’ve got new neighbors behind us. They’ve been there since about October and have 3 blue heeler mix dogs. Starting the week of Thanksgiving one kept getting out of his yard and coming around to the front of our yard picking on Harley thru the chain link. Tuesday we found a puncture wound on Harley’s neck which we had the vet look at. There is nothing in our yard that Harley would get near enough to to cause it. Bottom line is their dog got Harley thru the fence. The week after Thanksgiving their dog was out again at our back fence, jumping up and barking at Harley. The back fence is solid metal and high enough Harley can’t jump over and that dog can’t jump over either.
Yesterday, after my bath, I heard a commotion in the backyard. I got dressed thinking that dog was jumping up again and picking on Harley. When I got out there their dog was IN our yard. Harley and it were latched on to each other for dear life. The owner’s were already out there when I went out. They were saying your dog is killing my dog! I asked them wtf is YOUR dog doing in MY yard?! They said they didn’t know how to open our gate and get their dog. I got a stick and seperated the two dogs and well don’t you know all of a sudden they got the gate open and got their dog out. I called 911 and Craig. The bitches kept telling me it was illegal to have a pit in the city limits. When the deputy got here I told him the whole story. Those bitches had been blaming Harley for everything their dog had been doing. They just seem to have it in for him since he is a pit mix. I asked the deputy about it being illegal to have Harley and his reply was “hell no, there is no law banning pits in McCamey!” He gave them a citation and told me IF their dogs got out again he’d take the next step. I know that next step is to take their dogs.
Harley is fine, he’s got a patch of skin missing off the side of his neck that we are doctoring. We are watching him for any signs of aggression since he’s been in a fight and tasted blood. So far, he’s our sweet dear Harley, just looks a little sad. He gives me a look that says he doesn’t understand any of it.We’ve always done the right thing in raising Harley. He’s had trips to PetSmart since he was a pup. He’s gone around town with us. He loves making new friends both human and animal. Just about everyone here knows Harley and I think he has a bit of a fan club. I’ve been told by some that they are more afraid of Chloe than they are of Harley.
I don’t know what happened to the one that attacked him. I did notice they had chained up their other 2 dogs. I have no idea how bad their dog was hurt… nor do I really care. That’s a hard statement for me to make since anyone that knows me knows I don’t like any animal to hurt. I’m a big softie that way.
Back to the fence situation. We believe, and it will take a miracle to convince me differently, that they opened the back gate and put their dog in our yard just to fight thinking that Harley would be taken. Well, that back fired, they got the citation, Harley got a little petting from the deputy and our gate is now chained and locked.
Needless to say this event caused me an huge amount of stress and as anyone knows stress can and DID trigger spasms last night. I probably won’t stop worrying and de-stress until we are in our new house and away from the bitches behind us. Everyone knows that Craig and I made a pact when we first adopted Harley. Any sign of aggression from him and we’ll have him put down. We won’t do that over this event since plainly he was defending his turf and possibly our other dogs as well. The tear jerker came after I got Harley in the house and got the chance to look him over. He looked at me with such a sad look in his eyes and gave me a “kiss” like “I’m sorry Mom, I didn’t want to do it but what else could I do?” Craig and I spent most of the night reassuring him that we love him and still think he’s a terrific guy.
We will keep a watchful eye on our backyard and if them people get near it for any reason… they WILL get a earful from me. The battle lines have been drawn and I won’t let Harley come out the loser.
He is a terrific guy and did what he thought he had to do. He was protecting his family, period. Hugs to all of you and good vibes.
